Big-5 safari excursions are typically full-day experiences, with early departures and late returns in order to maximise time in the reserve and take advantage of optimal wildlife activity. Pick-ups are usually around 04h00, with returns to Johannesburg in the early evening, although the pace and duration of the day are always guided by guest preference.
As these are private excursions, there is complete flexibility — guests may choose to remain in the reserve longer to maximise sightings, or return earlier depending on energy levels and interests. Comfort is prioritised throughout, with blankets and pillows provided for guests who wish to rest during the journey to and from the reserve.
Full-day private Big-5 safaris typically range from ZAR 6,000 to 7,500 per person (based on two guests), inclusive of guiding, transport, park fees, meals, and refreshments.
